Wizer.me Assessment
Artifact Description:
What is the tool that you used to create your form?
The tool I used to create a formative assessment was the website Wiser.me. The site allows instructors to create online quizzes and tests that students can take. Teachers can design the content and style of each question and then type it into the page. The site was extremely user-friendly and allowed for large amounts of specificity when creating individual questions. There are also numerous design layouts to choose from which allows for further personalization and student excitement.
What process did you go through to create the form?
In order to create my assessment for my co-op, I first thought of questions that revolved around biology because that is the subject she teachers. Simply drag the desired format of each questions and add the content and required answer. After entering each question and its corresponding answer, teachers should save work and assign the assessment to students entering a group name that all students know and can join. The assessment is then available for students in each class to access.
How will you instruct students or parents to use and participate in the activity?
Students will be the primary users to the assessment, however, parents can access the site as well. By instructing students to go to https://app.wizer.me/learn/ and entering the pin code X8EZ7X, they will be able to access assessments. Students can then complete the online activity and submit it for grading.
How do you receive and interpret results?
Teachers can receive results by clicking on the tab "answers" at the top of the page. Once students have submitted their assessments, their answers and scores will appear here. After receiving results, teachers can interpret these scores in multiple ways. For use of formative assessment, teachers can use their students' results to alter lesson plans to better suit each student's needs. Teachers can also use the assessment to check student progress and reinforce any weak areas of understanding.
How does the tool relate to the Danielson framework of teaching and the component you identified?
Creating a formative assessment using Wiser.me allows for clear demonstration the Danielson framework of teaching because it involves domain 1, planning and preparation. Educators are responsible for being ready for each school day's activities by designing lesson plans and student assessments. Thus, by creating an online formative assessment, teachers can demonstrate Component 1f: Assessing Student Learning. The result of the assessments can reveal areas of weakness for each student and can allow for personal reflection on behalf of the teacher. From this information, teachers can improve their teaching strategies.
Artifact Reflection:
How can you use this tool in your future classroom?
As a future teacher, this website would be extremely useful in assessing student progress and personal teaching style. Online assessment allows for efficiency in the classroom as students can receive immediate feedback on their answers. Furthermore, teachers can directly view grades and do not need to take the time to grade individual tests. Teachers can also decide how they want to test their students' knowledge by choosing to design summative or formative assessment. The feedback from these scores can be used as a direct score or as a progress check for teacher reflection.
How does this experience relate to growth mindset?
On the student end, online assessments such as those created through Wizer.me change the traditional dynamics of the classroom. Students are often used to taking paper and pencil tests that do not test their ability to adapt learning or relate knowledge to current technology. Thus, by encouraging students to step out of their comfort zones and use an online source, they can become acquainted with new ways of thinking. On the teacher end, educators can grow in their profession by learning about new technologies and forms of assessment. This constant reflection is vital in remaining relevant an up-to-date in an ever changing society.
What did you enjoy about creating the artifact?
I thoroughly enjoyed using the tool, Wizer.me. I sometimes struggle with feeling comfortable using online assessment because I have not had much practice with it. However, after completing this activity, I have a more complete understanding of the benefits of using an online source. This form of assessment allows for efficiency in the classroom which is key to remaining on schedule for lessons. Furthermore, it can often be overwhelming to use a new form of technology to create an assessment for students. However, Wizer.me was very easy to use and allowed for numerous options when creating quizzes/tests/etc.
