Benchmark 4
I completed benchmark 4 as part of my math methods course. We were required to write a math story based on a topic that was appropriate for the grade level. I wrote my story on the order of operations and made it into a plot about baseball. I put the story under Domain 3 which is instruction. The story can be used in instruction when teachers read the story as an introduction to the order of operations. The project fits under Engaging Students in Learning because it is an interesting story that will grab the reader's attention. When students read Cracking the Code they will be interested in the concept of the order of operations and will be more likely to remember the information. Also, the story was written for a 5th grade student. The concept of the order of operations is explored in 5th grade and is demonstrated through the standard CC.2.2.5.A.1 - Interpret and evaluate numerical expressions using order of operations.
