Domain 1: Planning and Preparation
Domain 1 is one of four domains within the Danielson Framework for Teaching. It involves planning and preparation on behalf of the teacher. Educators must be ready for what each school day holds, and this can be accomplished by preparing lessons and activities in advance. Components within Domain 1 include Component 1a: Demonstrating Knowledge of Content and Pedagogy, Component 1b: Demonstrating Knowledge of Students, Component 1c: Selecting Instructional Goals, Component 1d: Demonstrating Knowledge of Resources, Component 1e: Designing Coherent Instruction, and Component 1f: Assessing Student Learning. By adhering to the expectations of Domain 1, teachers can have success in reaching the individual needs of each student. Planning results in organized and coherent lessons in which students are able to absorb new and exciting information.
