Digital Newsletter
Artifact Description:
Describe Smore and how it is used
I used the webiste Smore to create my digital newsletter. The site allows users to create anouncements with personalized information. It provides templates into which information can be substituted. Also, it provides the opportunity to insert pictures, video, or outside links.
How did you create the artifact?
In order to create a digital newsletter, I first brainstormed a topic. After deciding to design a newsletter "All About Me," I began inserting facts about my life into the Smore. After making three categories, (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Sports, and Grove City College) I inserted corresponding pictures into the newsletter. I also inserted a link to the college website in case students have further questions.
How does it fit into Danielson framework of teaching and the component you identified?
Creating a digital newsletter relates to Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities. By creating a newsletter, I am able to represent myself well as a professional teacher. Also, it relates to Component 4c which discusses the importance of communicating with families. Designing a Smore about my personal life allows me to share information with families so that they can learn more about me.
Artifact Reflection
What did you enjoy about creating the artifact?
I thoroughly enjoyed creating a digital newsletter using Smore. The website was extremely user friendly and allowed me to personalize information. Also, I think that using technology to communicate with others is especially useful in today's society.
How does this experience relate to Growth Mindset?
Creating a digital newsletter relates to having a growth mindset because it encourages students to learn about subjects with which they may not be familiar. Students are reminded that there is always room to grow and learn. Also, teachers can experience growth mindset by using an unfamiliar program. I personally had never before used Smore and learned a lot by using the site.
How can you use this tool in your future classroom?
I can use Smore in my future classroom in numerous ways. For example, I can create an "All About Me" introduction as I did for this project. I can also present part of a lesson on Smore. This would familiarize students with the topic before going in depth.
