Padlet
Artifact Description:
What is the tool that you used to create your discussion/poll piece?
I used Padlet to create a student discussion. The site was very user friendly and allowed me to easily create personalized questions for students.
What process did you go through to create it?
In order to create a discussion on Padlet, I first titled the project "End of the Year Survey" as specified by my co-op. I also included that it was for high school grades. I then instructed students to answer the following questions on their own pad. I designed five questions that are good end of the year questions for a teacher to ask students. I created both questions that required open ended answers and questions that were multiple choice. Students will answer the questions based on their personal thoughts and the instruction's requirements.
How does it fit into the component you identified and a specific element within Danielson?
Creating a Padlet fits into Domain 3 which discusses classroom instruction. The tool allows me to give instruction to students without verbally stating it. Students can complete the assignment on their own to be checked online by the teacher. Using Padlet further fits into Component 3b of the framework which covers questioning and discussion techniques. By designing questions that students are able to answer using prior knowledge and opinions, I am able to stimulate discussion and collaboration.
Artifact Reflection:
What did you enjoy about creating the artifact?
I thoroughly enjoyed creating a discussion using Padlet. The website was extremely user friendly, as I had never before created an online discussion. The site also allowed me to design a personalized background that enhances the overall aesthetic of the project. Creating questions specific to my topic was important for the assignment, and Padlet allowed me to create ones that would be appropriate.
How does this experience relate to Growth Mindset?
Using Padlet to create an online discussion relates to having a growth mindset because it allows students to answer questions through a different method. Many times, teachers simply give students a pencil and paper end of the year survey. However, encouraging students to use technology to share their opinions allows them to understand different ways of completing tasks. It also allows teachers to have a growth mindset by forcing them to use a site with which they may not be familiar.
How can you use this tool in your future classroom?
I can use Padlet in my future classroom in numerous ways. For instance, I can create an end of the year survey as I did for this assignment. I can also use Padlet as a homework assignment for students by creating questions having to deal with the material learned in class. Thus, I can check student understanding and monitor progress. Lastly, I can use Padlet as a way to get to know my students better in the beginning of the school year. I can create questions that allow me know learn about my students' personal lives and understand their lives outside of the classroom.
