ClassDojo
Artifact Description:
What is the tool that you used to create your classroom management piece?
I used ClassDojo to monitor and manage classroom behavior. The site allowed me to create a class by inputting students' names. By using ClassDojo, I was able to monitor the good and bad behavior that took place in my classroom.
What process did you go through to create it?
In order to create my ClassDojo, I first created a class and then inputted students' names. I then went into my online classroom and was able to select positive and negative behaviors. The positive behaviors were already provided for my use. However, I was able to create negative behaviors such as "using cell phone" or "off task". After inputting poor behaviors, I was able to select different positive and negative behaviors based on the students' actions.
How does it fit into the component you identified?
ClassDojo fits into Component 2D of the Danielson Framework of Teaching because it aids teachers in managing student behavior. Teachers can input different behaviors for students on a daily or weekly basis. Also, parents can be included in student behavior if they are added to the classroom. If parents are aware of their child's actions, then they can address issues or encourage behaviors at home. Furthermore, teachers can link consequences to poor behavior to encourage rule following.
Artifact Reflection:
What did you enjoy about creating the artifact?
I really enjoyed creating a class that included two of my classmates. By organizing an online class, I was able to imagine someday having a real class and how I could use ClassDojo to enhance learning. I also thought that the website was extremely user-friendly and was not difficult to navigate.
How does this experience relate to Growth Mindset?
Using ClassDojo relates to a growth mindset for both teachers and students. By creating an online classroom to track student behavior, teachers can use technology to become more effective in the classroom. Furthermore, students can have a growth mindset by learning from poor behavior. After a student has misbehaved, he will be able to improve his actions for future situations, thus demonstrating character growth.
How can you use this tool in your future classroom?
I can use ClassDojo in my future classroom in numerous ways. Not only can I track students' behavior and make them aware of areas of needed improvement, but I can also involve parents even though they are not present in the classroom. By adding parents to the classroom, they will be able to track student behavior and will hopefully encourage children as well.
