Component 4a: Reflecting on Teaching
What is Component 4a?
Component 4a requires teachers to reflect upon their success in the classroom. Educators should look back on previous lessons and determine that their success. They should evaluate whether or not students were engaged throughout the lesson. For example, did students participate and did they demonstrate active learning?
Why is Component 4a important?
It is important that teachers realize the impact of their teaching. If their lessons do not have an influence on students and content is not retained, teachers should consider making adjustments to their teaching style. Teachers should ask challenging questions that allow them to learn more about their lessons' success so that they can reach their students' needs.
Elements
The first element within Component 4a is accuracy. Teachers' reflections need to be timely and thoughtful in order for them to be effective. By documenting reflections, teachers can remember exact things that occurred during a lesson so that they can change for the future. Secondly, teachers should make reflections to be used in future teaching. When teachers notice aspects of their lesson that were unsuccessful, they can change their lesson so that it is more effective in the future.
Possible Artifacts:
Documentation of reflection.
Student surveys
