Contributing to the School and District
What is Component 4d?
Component 4b involves participating in a professional community. Teachers should be making an active effort to build professional relationships with colleagues. Also, teachers should participate in school related projects that aid the school district or community in some way.
Why do we need to know about Component 4d?
It is important that teachers understand and apply the component because they must model behavior that promotes student learning and growth. By setting a positive example, teachers can encourage students to act in ways that benefit the school and surrounding community as well.
Elements
Teachers should seek to form solid relationships with colleagues. By maintatining relationships, teachers can create a network of people that can be of assistance. Secondly, teachers should be involved in a culture of professional inquiry. This can be accomplished by by attending conferences keeping up to date with journals and following educational websites/blogs. Teachers should also provide service to the school by volunteering during school events, programs, etc. Lastly, teachers need to participate in school and district projects, at times helping with programs via a leadership role.
