Component 4e:
Growing and Developing Professionally
What is Component 4e?
Component 4e encourages teachers to continue to grow in understanding of their content area. This can be accomplished by obtaining feedback from colleagues or by attending seminars in which education and content area are discussed.
Why is Component 4e important?
It is important that teachers continue to develop both professionally and in their content area. By learning more information about subject material, teachers can be sure that they are teaching accurate and relevant material. Furthermore, teachers need to continue their education even after they are certified so that they can help colleagues as well.
Elements
The first element within Component 4e is enhancement of content knowledge and pedagogical skill. It is important for teachers to be up to date when it comes to content area and pedagogy. Secondly, teachers should be receptive to feedback from colleagues. When working with colleagues, teachers have to be able to receive constructive feedback from them. Lastly, teachers should provide a service to the profession by participating in workshops, attending conferences, or completing other activities that benefit themselves in some way.
